It’s Easter Sunday! JESUS IS RISEN!
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
I wasn’t originally planning on doing an Easter-themed post, but a beautifully moving experience happened to me last Sunday, and I wanted to share it with you.
Last Sunday, Palm Sunday, my church had the Lord’s Supper (also known as Communion). I hadn’t had Communion in a very long time, possibly a couple of years. For some reason or another I had just missed being at church on the day that they had it.
My mind and heart were immediately filled with special memories from my childhood. Memories involving Easter, my acceptance of Christ as my Lord and Savior, my Baptism, my first communion, different spiritual milestones throughout my life. My heart started feeling tender and vulnerable as the memories flooded in.
During the sermon, our Pastor talked about how Christ humbled Himself and became a man in our midst. He experienced life as a human. He could see, hear, taste, smell, and touch just like we can. His life on earth was real and tangible just like ours.
The Pastor went on to say that Christ’s very presence is with us during the moment of Communion. He said he believed Christ was reaching out to us and touching us as we took the bread and took the cup in remembrance of Him.
As I sat there in my chair, alone, no one to the left or to the right of me, closing my eyes and praying while I held my bread and my juice, I could literally and physically feel Christ’s arms wrapped around my shoulders. It’s as if a heavy yet comforting blanket had gently been placed on me— a warm, enveloping embrace.
It felt so real. It felt so strong. I knew in that moment that Jesus was holding me.
“I died for you,” He whispered. “I humbled myself and endured a painful and lonely death on the cross for YOU… because I love you so much.”
Tears streamed down my face as we finished taking communion and sang “How Beautiful Is the Body of Christ.” I had never felt Jesus so tangibly before. It’s as if He had taken on a human form to give me a great big hug in that brief precious moment because He knew my human nature would understand and accept it.
I could still physically feel His arms wrapped around me as I walked out of the sanctuary, and there were also times throughout the day that I could physically feel His embrace, even if it was just for a fleeting moment.
Christ is REAL. He is ALIVE today.
I know it’s sometimes hard for our earthly minds to comprehend that Jesus is in our midst, but He is, in the form of the Holy Spirit. We often feel His presence in our heart and in our soul, and He is there too, but I encourage you to physically picture Him with your tangible senses. Your eyes, ears, and hands.
Close your eyes. Picture Jesus sitting next to you, holding you, holding your hand. Because He is. He’s right there with you, every moment of every day.
Do you see Him? Do you feel Him?
This Sunday, as we celebrate Christ’s triumphant resurrection from the dead, know that He is not just waiting for you in Heaven. He— as the Holy Spirit— is by your side. He is taking hold of your hand and wrapping His arms around you because He wants you to know He is REAL and ALIVE and you’re not alone.
He is with you. Here. Now. Because He loves you so much.
