“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
This is one of my favorite verses. It’s so short and sweet and yet so powerful. Let’s dig into its depth for a moment… a quiet moment.
BE
Just be. Forget about the world for a little bit. Forget about all your responsibilities and stressors. This time is for you and God alone, together, in a moment of intimacy and oneness. Be vulnerable. Be open. Be ready to listen.
STILL
Be still. Forget about the dirty dishes in the sink, the unfolded pile of laundry, and your long list of “to do’s”. Go find a quiet space for a few minutes.
Focus on your breathing. Take a deep breath in, and then push it out, nice and slow. Do this five times. Ready?
[Breathe in… breathe out…. Breathe in… breathe out…. Breathe in… breathe out…. Nice and slow. Breathe in… breathe out…. Breathe in… breathe out….] Inhale peace and goodness, and exhale all the stress, all the anxieties, doubts, and fears. Be still. Rest in Him.
AND KNOW
Don’t think. Don’t presume. KNOW. Know with certainty, resting in God’s assurances and promises. Know that He is with you in this moment. Know that He loves you and is welcoming you with outstretched arms, ready to comfort you and envelope you with the strength only He can give.
THAT I AM GOD
Wow! What a powerful statement! “I am God.” He is omnipotent! He sees all things, hears all things, knows all things. No sorrow is too deep and no burden is too big for Him to carry.
But not only is He God, He is YOUR God. The One who created the heavens and the earth desires to have intimacy with YOU. He knows every strand of hair on your head, every freckle, every insecurity, every thought and feeling, every sin. And yet, He desires oneness with you because He LOVES you. You are His precious child.
God’s got this. God’s got you. Surrender to Him this moment. Cast on Him your troubles as you rest in His peace and assurance.
Be still, and know that He is God.

Once again, Amy, you have helped us to focus on what really matters during this unsettling time. It is such a comfort that God knows everything that is happening now and that He is in control. Nothing surprises Him or is too big for Him to handle. It truly is a time for us to “Be still, and know . . .” that He is God. It is also a time for us to make Him known. Thank you so much for sharing this!
